Goseikan Kendo Dojo

Welcome to Goseikan Kendo, a Kendo Dojo in Chicago, IL and Chicagoland. Our aim is human character development through the education and practice of Kendo. Through the commitment to the values of Bushido we aim to become better members of our dojo and community.

Our current practice schedule is: Monday and Thursday (8:00-10:30 pm) at Forteza, and Saturday (10:00 AM to 1:00 PM) at Bernard Weinger JCC in Northbrook. We also offer practices on Fridays via the Wheaton Park District (all ages).

Starting 1/18 we will be offering a kid’s and adults class at the Futubakai School in Arlington Heights, IL! Practice will be from 4:30 to 6:30 pm on Saturdays!

Goseikan Kendo is a Japanese martial arts dojo in Chicago, IL and the Chicagoland area.

Kendo, the way of the sword, is modern Japanese fencing that uses wooden bamboo swords (shinai) and armor (bogu).

Never done a martial art before?

Goseikan welcomes all new students and beginners. Whether you’ve done martial arts in the past and now want something new, or you’ve never done a martial art before, all new students are encouraged to watch, participate, and ask questions.

Practice Information

Chicago: Forteza Fitness
Mondays & Thursdays 8-10:30 PM

Our Chicago Kendo location is open to all who wish to join practice. You are welcome to come and watch practice or try Kendo for yourself. Please reach out to us in advance with the form below to learn more, or to get parking/entry information.

Northbrook: Bernard Weinger JCC
Saturdays 10 AM-1 PM

On Saturdays we practice at the Bernard Weinger JCC in Northbrook from 10 am to 1 pm. This class is included in all Chicago programs. Reach out to us for more information on practice at this location.

Wheaton: Wheaton Parks District
Fridays 7:00-8:45 PM

Our Wheaton program is run through the Wheaton Parks District and the perfect class for people who want to learn or advance their Kendo skills. Classes are taught on Fridays in the dance room, and enrollment is done by semester. Reach out to us for enrollment periods.

Kids and Adults Saturday Practice Information

Starting Saturday, 1/18, we will be offering a Kid and Adult practice at Futabakai in Arlington Heights, IL. The practice will go from 4:30 to 6:30, with the first hour designed for kid’s and family, and the second hour for advanced kids and adults.
